Welcome to the Pleasant Valley High Ski & Snowboard Racing Team! We are excited that you are interested in knowing more about the team.

Who?:  Intermediate skiers & boarders. (Beginners talk to Coach Walt)

What?: An alpine racing team, competing in the CNISSF High School League.

Where?: We dry-land train in Chico and train gates and race in North Tahoe.

When?: Dry-land training (conditioning) is on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Nov-Feb after school.

On-hill gate training on non-school days throughout Dec-Feb.

             Tahoe Races on Fridays/Mondays Jan-Feb.

State Championships are at Shasta during the week of March 4-7 (must qualify).

How do I get there?:  Carpools driven by parents, lodging varies and is on your own.

Why?: Because it’s a great group of friends and families, and it’s racing!

Cost?:

On-hill training and 1 season pass.  To help offset costs we use the services of Auburn Ski Club for a separate training program which includes 7 days of gate training & 1 season passes. The cost is estimated to be $630.00.

The team is a “self-funded” varsity sport at PV High School and CUSD which means we can have a team with the full support of the district but the district will not fund any part of the cost. The team has a very active and dedicated group of parents who head up a fundraising committee and provide volunteer support. Money is raised through a variety of fundraisers: Almond Bowl Car Raffle, Ski Swap, Parent & Friend Wine Tasting and other events. The money raised through these activities pays for coaching expenses, league dues and race fees, and a professional fitness trainer. All parents are expected to provide volunteer help in ongoing or “as needed” roles.

Do we have to stay overnight? If so, where do we stay?

Overnight stays are not mandatory. It takes a little over two hours to get to Boreal from Chico. Parents/racers that choose to stay overnight do so in a variety of places. Some families choose to rent/lease a home in the Tahoe area, some stay at a variety of hotels in Truckee, Reno (45 minutes from Boreal) or Boomtown (30 minutes from Boreal).

How do racers get to and from the mountain?

Parents must provide ALL transportation to the mountain and back for race and practice days. Carpooling is facilitated by a parent volunteer for the team but it is ultimately the parent’s responsibility to get their racer to the mountain.

Where do I get ski/snowboard gear for my racer?

Gear can be purchased wherever you can find it. The team has a ski swap at the beginning of the school year and we keep the students updated about any additional ski swaps, and/or sales we become are aware of through the Fall. Used equipment is acceptable and a lot of time returning racers know of or have extra equipment.

Coaches will review clothing and gear requirements at a team meeting. Hughes Ski Hut in Chico sells ski and snowboard equipment. Sports LTD sells snowboard equipment. We do have some equipment from past racers as well

Helmet Regulations: Read the flyer and make sure you have the correct helmet for the team.   If you have any questions, check with Coach Walt.  HELMET FLYER

Can I watch the races if I don’t ski?

Absolutely! There is always an area at the base of the race-course for spectators. It may be a bit of a hike, but well worth it to see our racers fly through the finish line.
